OK, I have heard you loud and clear, the comments suck in SubText and on Geekswithblogs.net. I agree, but I don't have near as many problems with people being able to comment as others do. This leads me to believe the problems lay in two places, the skins or the custom HTML code fields. Most of the time when I am debugging a blogger with comment problems they are due to some javascript they have embedded into the news section of their blog. However, this is a problem so we need to get it fixed so...

I feel like Mater from Cars yelling, "It's done!" The first time I attempted this task, I was completely unsuccessful and undid all the code changes I made. I gave it a few weeks and tried again using a different approach, this time it was successful! Adding additional logic for host records to SubText is not an easy feat. Not only do you have to worry about the virtualization aspects of the site and ensureing the domains requested will still load the data, but with many open-source projects, everyone...

If you are a member of Geekswithblogs.net and have a domain you are currently redirecting to your blog, or just want to participate in this beta, please contact me via this blog and I will get you setup in the system. I want to ensure I do not have any bugs as this took a decent sized overhaul to the page handling model of SubText to make this happen. Review this post if you are not sure what I mean by custom domains and join in on the fun. Technorati Tags: Geekswithblogs,Custom Domains...

I created a new skin for Geekswithblogs.net called DKSkin. Well, I didn't really create it as much as I found the template being used by another system that borrowed it from a free template site (while giving the appropriate credit) and just ported it myself, but none the less, we have a new skin. If others in the community like a skin they see out there and if they can get rights to that template, download SubText and implement the skin and I will publish it for you if it works well. To try this...

When creating a post on your Geekswithblogs.net blog, to take advantage of the tagging feature, insert Technorati tags at the end of the post. If you are unfamiliar with tagging or how to create Technorati tags, visit this help page and learn more about what to do. If you are using Windows Live Writer as your post editor, use the link on the right side to easily add these tags. With the SubText 1.9.5 update, the team fixed the Community-Credit integration that may of our members have been dying to get their hands on. This is awesome. At the HDC, me and David talked a lot of CC and GWB and I promised I would get the site working better with his in the near future. Well it looks like I was able to come through with that promise thanks to the SubText team. Let me know if you create a post and Community-Credit doesn't recognize it by default via the comments of this post. Technorati...

I just published the latest version of Geekswithblogs.net (including SubText 1.9.5) and I hope you like it. One of the features I added was Twitter integration. Twitter is a micro-blogging service that members use to let their followers know what they are doing at any given moment. This service is excellent so there was no reason to recreate the wheel, and with their API, i could easily grab the information from Twitter and publish it on Geekswithblogs.net. These are the steps to configure your blog...

John and I have been working hard to get Geekswithblogs.net updated to SubText 1.9.5 and also take an opportunity to add some additional features and put some framework items in place. SubText 1.9.5 made one major change and a few minor one and bug fixes. The major change is Tagging. If you use Live Writer, make sure you are using the Technorati tagging feature in the tool as SubText will review your posts for Technorati tags and add them to your site. One of the new features that you will not see...

Recently Geekswithblogs.net turned 4 years of age and around the same time we reached 30,000 posts! This is awesome! Soon we will be at 1600 bloggers and the community keeps getting bigger and better. I look at the feed (constantly) and I am just amazed by the source code and information each blogger is adding to the community. I wonder if we could estimate the amount of hours and days that Geekswithblogs.net members have put into producing content. I am sure the number would scare us. On another...

Seems like everyone is getting FeedBurner accounts and I can't blame them, the statistics are awesome. In fact I have been using FeedBurner for about 6 months. One of the nice additions to SubText when we converted was easy integration with FeedBurner so once you configure, GWB will redirect your feed request to FeedBurner. No more need for a post to tell people to change their feeds. So Jeff, how do we do this? I don't know figure it out yourself like I did... jk Here are the steps to configuring...

Dru Sellers recently tagged me on what I would do to become a better developer so here it goes: Get Geekswithblogs.net on SubText 1.9.5 - Running a growing software consulting firm is hard. Even with John at the helm with me, it takes a lot of time. This is one of the first acts I need to become a better developer due to the fact that is will require a high level of involvement with reviewing the code changes and merging the differences. Plus there will be an additional need to really get the most...

With Windows Live Writer, there is no more need for Flickr, or hand rolling galleries to get pictures in your posts. If you have a post and you want to add a picture from your hard drive to it, just drag it on and publish. Metablogger and SubText will take care of the rest. Don't believe me? Check it out below: Brandon can't get away from computers...

Tonight I had to do a few fixes to the performance of SubText and Geekswithblogs.net. The big fix is an addition of 6 skins and David Douglass can have his blog back (issue with .NetOnMyMind name) Thanks to SubtextSkins.com for keeping a list of the SubText skins and location to download. Here is a list of them. Back in Black Day Dreaming Dirtylicious Informatif Minty Terrafirma Some of them still need tweaking, but they have promise for the custom CSS guys out there. This post will update my original post of configuring Geekswithblogs.net with Windows Live Writer (previously using .Text). In this version, I will discuss how to a SubText blog with Windows Live Writer to get the most out of writing blog posts. I can't emphasis enough that external blogging tools are important to your day-to-day blogging activity. Unlike browsers, these tools allow you to write, stop, and come back and write some more. You can leave the window open all day and just come back when...

Take a good last look at Geekswithblogs.net on .Text because tomorrow night, we are doing a major upgrade to SubText 1.9.4. This upgrade will most likely take 4 to 5 hours to ensure the software is converted and stable. I really want to thank Dru and the SubText team for all their work with us during this process. After quite a bit of testing, we have very high confidence in this product and the migration should be seamless. ** IMPORTANT ** If you find any issues with the site after the upgrade,...

Dru Sellers, one of our faithful bloggers, is working for AJI Software on the conversion to SubText again. We had to pull him away for a few months as he was working on a client project, but he is now dedicated to adding the features we need to SubText for a smooth migration with current functionality. Everyone wish Dru luck during the long days and nights he is pulling to get this site updated as soon as we can. One of the items I would like to change near the launch of the site is a new look and...
