Since installing Option Pack 4 for Windows NT to get IIS running Classic ASP, we have all felt the lack of ease from Microsoft to actually create websites on a developer box. There has always been an expressed need to not need a custom configured machine to install Visual Studio and create web sites right away. Why must we open Windows Configuration and add all these pieces if a solution for our OS could be added to the development product line. My first development job was 10 years ago when I worked...

I love SharePoint and after the book was published and I started reading the competitive books, I love it even more.. With that, I am going to start focusing this blog on SharePoint related data, and of course Geekswithblogs news as well. With that, I definitely want to stick to the development side of the house and wanted to know what you would like to see extending in SharePoint 2007? More Blogs and Wiki features than the community is already offering? Tutorials on Features, Web Parts, etc? Let...
March 2-6, 2008, I should be in Seattle at the Microsoft Office SharePoint Conference 2008 event. I don't know if they heard me when I mentioned the php/mySql driven site (probably not), but now the site is actually a SharePoint 2007 site. Hopefully more information will come out about the event, but you can register to get more information here. Technorati tags: SharePoint, MOSS, SharePoint Conference, Conference, Seattle...
Well, Rob Foster, Murray Gordon, John Alexander, and Myself have all been working on competitive SharePoint 2007 books this past Fall/Winter and they are all being published around the same time. Personally I would suggest purchasing MINE first, but then definitely support the other guys. Honestly, these guys are my friends and I communicate with them frequently so I hope their books sell well. Rob and I have vented to each other via IM about SharePoint when we ran into issues serveral times. Hopefully...
Wrox, publisher of the upcoming Professional SharePoint 2007 Development book John and I worked on, has published an excerpt from the book covering Creating Content Type Metadata for SharePoint 2007 Document Management Solutions. I am very excited to see this book hit the shelves. It has been in the works (from conversation all the way up to printing) since TechEd 2006 Boston when John and I started talking to Jim Minatel about the title. Last night at 3 AM, CST, I published my final chapter for the upcoming Wrox SharePoint 2007 Development title John and I have working on recently. Writing is definitely an interesting process. Thats all I will say about that. After reviewing the other chapters in the book, I am really looking forward to this title being printed. It is available via Pre-Order on Amazon right now if you want to grab your copy as soon as it comes out. Now that this is behind be, I plan to start publishing more posts...
Take a look, Microsoft has created a public SharePoint site and one of the MSDN/TechNet Bloggers has moved over there. I wonder how long before the others start porting their blogs over? It really makes sense to me to have Microsoft bloggers using the SharePoint 2007 blogging functionality. Microsoft.com was the first part to show that SharePoint can scale and moving their blogs over will just prove the point even more. Congrats on the move! Subscribers, you can now go to MSDN and download SharePoint 2007 Standard and Enterprise
After a machine of mine became consumed by a project, I have been building a new set of disks latest for my use during new projects. I always build my VPCs using differencing disk. For those of you new to this concept, it allows you to build a disk off of a parent disk and all changes at that point will go to the new disk. With the environment changing on us constantly with different releases of products, it is critical for you to get your project up quick. Here is my example: As you can see, I am...
It looks like Microsoft will discontinue FrontPage at the end of the year with the release of other tools for SharePoint 2007 development/maintenance. It has been a pain to need this tool installed to edit SharePoint so I am glad to hear this news
