So we are at almost two weeks since I purchased the 11 inch MacBook Air and the question would be asked, would you buy it again now that you had one? The answer, absolutely. I am amazed at the speed. Engadget suggested that it was slow on their podcast, but I have to disagree. I only have the 2gb and 1.4ghz model as well, the only upgrade I was able to purchase at the store was the 128gb SSD. I would say it is fast enough for what I use it for. Blogging, Word, Outlook, Excel, surfing, music, video ......
Have you ever wanted a portable dual monitor setup for when you are working remotely. Or use PowerPoint/Keynote at Panera when you need to show a presentation to a potential client while still having your notes on the display? Well probably not, but I am sure someday we will. For now you can do it with an MacBook Air and an iPad with no cords, just WiFi and a couple new devices. Check out this video when I show how I hooked up the MacBook Air and iPad using ScreenRecycler and a VNC client. Very easy ......
I am learning how to write apps for the iPad/iPhone/iPod! Why, well several reasons. One reason, I have 5 devices in my house on the platform. I had an iPad and iPhone, Michelle has an iPhone, and each of the kids have iPod Touches. They are excellent devices for life management, entertainment, and learning. I am amazed at how well the kids pick up on it and how much it effects the way they learn. My two year old knows how to use it better than any other device we own and she is learning new words ......
One thing I have learned about using a Mac is that Apple does not produce very many free applications. The ones they do are typically not full featured and to get the full feature you need to buy their upgraded version. For example, when it comes to Photo editing and cataloging, iPhoto is not a solution for large files or RAW processing, you need Aperture which is a couple hundred dollars. I am not complaining because I like it when an application has a product team who generates revenue with it, ......
No the world is not ending, well I don't know if it is or isn't, but John and myself switched to MacBook Pros from our Toshibas. These machines are amazing. I have never been so excited to work with Vista. Don't worry, I am not a switcher. While I downloaded Vista Business from MSDN, I used OS X Leopard and I had the same reaction that I did with my original Apple PowerBook, "What can I do?" I was literally bored on a computer and that takes a lot. Those awesome applications they talk about on the ......
Unless you are just looking for a case to protect your Zune, all other accessories were not shipped. I would hope Microsoft would know that portable devices are nothing without car/home attachments. You need to ship chargers and transmitters with the devices to the stores. This was a lesson Apple needs to learn as well. Every iPod I have purchased (1G, 4G, Nano) have not had adequate accessories at launch. At least Microsoft announced what the accessories were, but with the delivery date set on most ......
Man I need some accessories. Last night I downloaded so much music that I have been meaning to listen to (well over $249.99 in CDs), but I don't have anything for playback in my car. Here is my review of features: Radio - Robert's friends say it isn't good, but I am in the middle of a large brick building (center office, middle floor) and it comes in perfectly. It is nice to just flip from CDs to FM, too bad I mostly listen to AM and there are no talk radio stations on FM in KC. Buttons - Yeah this ......
Well I haven't used a Macintosh for about 2 years now so I decided to move away from the .Mac service I was using. This account cost over $100 a year and you only get 250mb of email storage. Kind of crappy for Apple to only offer this much space for paying members. This space is used by many of their services so it is easy to run out. If you still use my jjulian2@mac.com email address, contact me here and I will give you my new email. ......
This week I picked up an iCurve to hold my Powerbook up off the desk. One of the reason I purchased it, well the main reason, it looked really cool. My experience with it has been great. I love the way my laptop is elevated and the monitor is at my eye level. The only issue I have is the stability. It is kinda wobbly, but if you look at it's design, you can kind of determine it will be. This makes it impossible to type on the laptops keyboard. Oh well though, Apple released a bluetooth keyboard I ......
